Kohler Adds New Air-Cooled 18-kilowatt Product To Its Home Standby Generator Offering

Clean power, quiet operation and five-year warranty complement new Kohler 18kW

Kohler, Wis. – April 22, 2009 – Kohler® Power Systems adds an 18-kilowatt, Kohler engine-powered, air-cooled standby generator to its home power products. The new KOHLER 18RES, fueled by either natural gas or LP, will be available for sale through KOHLER dealers and in participating Lowe’s retail stores by second quarter 2009.

The 18RES unit extends Kohler’s air-cooled generator options, providing more power in a compact offering. The KOHLER 18kW standby unit is powered by the new 38 horsepower KOHLER Command PRO® engine, a premium offering in the small engine market.

Due to patented digital technology, all KOHLER standby residential generators protect the home and its equipment with cleaner, quiet and more reliable backup power. Kohler engineers its products with an Advanced Digital Control and premium alternator design which helps achieve a total harmonic distortion level of 3 percent at rated load, exceeding strict utility guidelines and IEEE standards.

This is important to homeowners who want their generator to support today’s sophisticated home electronics – including plasma TVs, security and home-office systems —without damage or degradation caused by an unstable power source. Kohler is committed to not only keeping the family productive and comfortable during power failures, but also to protecting the home and its equipment while operating on generator power.

Like other KOHLER standby units, the 18RES generator operates at neighborhood-friendly sound levels (68dBA), a rating that is within or below the varying community noise ordinances.

The KOHLER 18RES is UL 2200 Listed and supported by a limited five-year warranty, currently one of the best available in the market. The robust KOHLER engine requires oil changes only every 150 hours, which is about half the time required of competitive units. Offering reduced maintenance requirements is yet another advantage for the KOHLER generator customer.

“This all-KOHLER product – the power of the KOHLER air-cooled engine and the KOHLER generator design – offer today’s homeowners a premium back-up power solution that they can rely on in times of utility power failures,” said Melanie Tydrich, senior channel manager-residential generators, for Kohler Power Systems. “This unit is also built off the same design as our 12-kilowatt standby unit, which received the top score and was rated as a ‘best buy’ in a leading consumer magazine in 2006.”
